Assessment

Identify the kind of support
that matters most to you right now.

What This Assessment Can Help You Recognize

Support Languages™ is a culturally grounded, reflective self-assessment created specifically for Black women. It names five distinct support needs and helps you recognize which one may be showing up most strongly in your life right now.

Those needs can be met in different ways, including through emotional, relational, practical, material, organizational, or systemic support.

The questions move through different parts of your life because support needs can shift across relationships, responsibilities, environments, and seasons.

Your result is the Support Language that appears most often across your answers. It points to the kind of support that may be most important to you right now. It is not a personality type, and it does not mean the other four Support Languages do not matter. It gives you a place to begin.

“When I took the Support Languages assessment, I was honestly blown away by how resonant the questions felt and how accurate the results were. It didn’t feel surface-level or generic. I remember thinking, ‘This is the real deal.’

What stood out to me most was finally having words for the kind of support I actually need in my everyday life.”

Why This Assessment Was Created for Black Women

Black women’s experiences with support are shaped by our history and culture, and the expectations placed on us have shaped how people see us, what they expect from us, and how often our own needs get noticed, or not noticed at all.

We’re often expected to be dependable, resourceful, and able to figure things out. Because we’re seen that way, people can see us handling what needs to be handled and assume we’re supported, even when we’re doing it with little to no support.

Those expectations and assumptions can show up everywhere, in our families, friendships, workplaces, healthcare, communities, and other institutions. They can affect whether our needs are recognized, whether our words are taken seriously, whether we can step back when we need to, and whether support actually responds to who we are and what we need.

Support Languages™ was created with those realities in mind and with Black women’s experiences at the center.

Before You Begin

More than one answer may feel familiar. Choose the response that feels most true for you right now, even if another response also fits. Answer according to what you need in this season, not what you think you should need.

This is a reflective self-assessment. It is not a clinical or diagnostic tool.

About Your Email

Before you see your result, you’ll be asked for your name and email address, along with a few demographic questions for Round 1 research purposes. Your result will appear immediately after you submit that information.

You’ll also receive your Support Language Snapshot + Mini Practice Deck by email so you can review it before your interview. Your information will be used only for the Round 1 research process and related participant communications.

Still Have Questions?

Is the Support Languages™ Assessment a personality test?

No. The Support Languages Assessment is a reflective self-assessment designed to help you recognize the kind of support that may be most important to you right now. Your result reflects a support need, not a personality type or a permanent label.

Can I have more than one Support Language?

Yes. You may recognize yourself in more than one of the five Support Languages. Your result reflects the Support Language that shows up most often across your answers, but that does not mean the other four are unimportant to you.

Can my Support Language change over time?

Yes. Your support needs can shift depending on what is happening in your life, your relationships, your responsibilities, and the season you are in. The assessment is designed to reflect the kind of support that may be most important to you right now.

What if my result doesn’t feel like it fits me?

Your result is a place to begin, not a box you have to force yourself into. Read through your Support Language Snapshot, notice what feels true and what doesn’t, and consider whether another Support Language feels more connected to what you need right now.

Do I need to know anything about Support Languages before I take the assessment?

No. You do not need to study the five Support Languages or figure out which one you think fits you before you begin. Just answer the questions based on what feels most true for you right now.
